First Blizzard 12/27/10

by Elaine on December 28, 2010

Well, I thought I’d wait until January to write, but the first blizzard of the season has to be noted. It was supposed to begin on Dec. 28, but it came in early on the eve of the 27th and continued through all of the next day. The serious drop in temps came with it and we now know that winter is here to stay. We also knew right along that we were going to pay for our lovely long hot summer, and the first real storm coming in December makes me think we were correct. Nothing we haven’t seen before in the northeast, however,so for the most part it’s business as usual.
I will continue to work in the studio on these days (Guess where the wood stove is?) rearranging fabric on the board until a creative idea comes to mind. One of my projects for the week will be 2 small doll quilts. Something very traditional like charm squares or a 9 block. Maybe one of each to make them different. My scrap box has lots of color in it right now, so choosing will be great fun. Right after that I’ll be making 2 child size smocks for young painters in the family.
Another idea I’ve had for a while is to make reversible toddler pinafores. They would be so practical, because the child would not outgrow them as quickly because of the design. Plus, they’re good for more than one season. Add a long-sleeved shirt and leggings, and she’s good to go for the colder months. Adorable, practical, and very reasonably priced.
Stay warm and happy crafting.
